Casino Royal 2023

February 25, 2023

YOU DID IT! Building for Babies fundraising is a wrap!

We raised $115,000 to carry our multi-year Building for Babies project over the final threshold. While renovations will continue for some time, the Foundation’s job is complete — and we have you, our Contributors, to thank for it!

What a night it was! Casino Party Aces did another exceptional job of keeping the tables full — and fun — all night. Thanks to D.J Larry Salefsky, our non-gamers just danced the night away! And La’Moore Media Versatility did such a great job with the new 360º photo booth.

So many folks told me they were thrilled with the auction items brought to us from Tournament Promotions this year! The lucky recipients of the Orlando Family Vacation will enjoy the 8 Days/7 Nights at a Condo-Style Resort with a $1000 Gift Card redeemable for (4) two-day Magic Your Way base tickets and much more! Also auctioned was the coveted 3 Day/2 Night Golf Package to Myrtle Beach, the Marsh and Mountain Glamping Trip (a great new one!), the exquisite Asheville Biltmore Getaway, and the fabulous Experience Williamsburg Getaway. What fun you all will have!

Please know I have deeply valued the friendships and laughter I’ve shared with all of you as your Foundation Executive Director these past years and know you will continue to accomplish great things for of our wonderful Onslow community! The work we’ve done as a giving community will endure for generations to come.

All the best,

Lee Anne Thomas

Miles for Mammos 2022

November 12, 2022

The Onslow Memorial Hospital Foundation teamed up with the OMH Women’s Imaging to host the annual Miles for Mammos 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run in support of Julie’s Pink Warrior Project. The event took place on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Jacksonville Commons. This year’s honorees were OMH employees Nancy Pate and Tina Koonce.

Julie’s Pink Warrior Project provides free screening mammograms to the underinsured and uninsured in Onslow County. Since its inception in 2018, we have provided 338 mammograms to women in need. This year we have raised over $18,000 with the Miles for Mammos 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run and Breast Cancer Awareness t-shirt sales. This will provide funding for 180 mammograms.

Casino Royale 2022

June 4, 2022

Thanks to our amazing sponsors the Casino Royale 2022 gala was a huge success! We were able to raise over $200,000 in support of our Building for Babies Campaign.

Casino Party Aces again brought the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas to Jacksonville, NC. Guest enjoyed playing Blackjack, Roulette, Craps and Poker with 'funny money' and a chance to win great prizes. Those who didn't gamble enjoyed dancing the night away on the dance floor. A great time was had by all while raising money for a great cause- our Onslow County moms and babies!

Thank you ALL for your generosity and support!

Bust a Move for Babies Drive In Concert

May 7, 2021

The Covid 19 Pandemic caused us to pivot and think outside the box in order to provide a safe, fun and unique fundraiser for our Building for Babies Campaign. The community rallied behind us and helped us have a unique kind of fundraiser for the whole community. We had an old fashioned drive in concert featuring The Band of Oz. Sponsors were able to purchase car spots that allowed for social distancing, fun and fellowship. With your help we were able to raise over $67,000 for Building for Babies!

Thank you for your continued support of the Onslow Memorial Hospital Foundation!

Casino Royale 2020

February 29, 2020

"More gambling tables next year!" was the request heard over and over the night of Saturday, Feb. 29, one of our most successful fundraising galas ever!

Even though we anticipated crowds at the Blackjack, Roulette, Craps, Poker, Let-it-Ride and Three Card Poker tables, your over the moon enthusiasm to our Casino Royale party floored us! The Casino Party Aces tables were packed the entire night! I can certainly understand how many of you wished your "funny money' was real when you tallied up your winnings too. The good news is the $100,000 you helped us raise is definitely real! Our Onslow County babies and their moms will be the benefactors of your heartfelt generosity for many years to come.

Thank you, thank you, thank you ALL!

Awesome '80s Party

February 23, 2019

On Saturday February 23, the OMH Foundation’s ‘Awesome ’80s’ gala event rocked Jacksonville’s American Legion Building, in the words of Lionel Richie, “all night long” – and all for our precious Onslow County babies!

“Building for Babies,” the Foundation’s 2018-2019 Annual Giving Campaign, was initiated in 2018, and continues through 2019, to raise funds for significant improvements to the Maternal Child Services Floor which includes Labor & Delivery, Nursery, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Pediatrics.

“Thanks to the overwhelming support of this community, we’ve raised a combined total of nearly $235,000 from last year and this year’s events and are now able to start real improvements to our Maternal Child Services Floor,” reports Foundation Executive Director Lee Ann Thomas. “We could not have done this without the help of all our OMH Foundation Board Members, our Events Committee Members, and all our dedicated volunteers.”

The ’80s show band, The Deloreans, played all the mega hits from the era of glitz and glam. “Their energy was unbelievable. They had multiple costume changes and literally never took a break all night,” Thomas said. “People were on the dance floor nonstop!”

“The Decorations Committee led by Karin Dickerson outdid themselves,” Thomas added. “It was a total flashback to the ’80s!”

The well-attended extravaganza included a first-time ‘wine pull’ with wrapped wine bottles donated by Baked, Bottle and Brew, Empire Distributing, and OMH Foundation Board Members, Beth Purcell, Mike Williams and Stan Walker. Some bottles were worth $20 and some upwards of $100. By buying a $20 ticket, guests took a chance by pulling a mystery bottle from the wine rack (consolations prizes available to anyone pulling a less expensive bottle!)

Meanwhile, the silent and live auctions (thanks to Gayle Alvis, Paula Garris, and Tydrea Russell) yielded highly sought after items, such as a Carolina Panthers Jersey donated by the Panthers and signed by Ollie Green, a Pac Man video game, and a Belle Etoile Sterling jewelry set with hand painted turquoise and Italian enamels donated by Bradley’s Jewelers.

As always, a truly great dinner was provided by Golden Corral and a well-stocked bar attended to guests thanks to all our retired USMC officers hosting as volunteer bartenders!

“We could not have done this without our Hall of Heritage Sponsors – Marine Federal Credit Union, Golden Corral and Louis and Doris Sewell,” Thomas said. “Drs. Scott and Carol Johnston personally donated $10,000, in addition to their practices donating $1,000 each. The generosity and vision of this medical community never fails to astound us in such heart-warming ways!”

When the music finally ended (don’t ask the time!) a core of very special people – Jacksonville's ‘own’ SgtMaj Joe Houle USMC (Ret), Col John Kopka USMC (Ret) and GySgt Stan Walker USMC (Ret) – and all their volunteer marines – stayed on for the tiring work of returning the American Legion Building to its former self. “Not only are these great people here to help us set up, they are the last people standing,” Thomas laughed. “They know the true meaning of service, and we are especially blessed and grateful for them.”

10th Anniversary Black Tie Gala

February 27, 2018

The Free proved to be the perfect fit for the spectacular 10th Anniversary Black Tie Gala! This upscale party blended modern style with their authentic southern roots. They effortlessly engaged the dance floor with high-energy sets that pulled from the best of rock & roll, pop hits, country, and classic R&B.

The Black Tie Gala guests could not praise this band enough – we hear you!

When they weren’t dancing, Black Tie Gala patrons found time to bid on a fantastic array of silent auction items using their smartphones. Many guests also had lots of fun taking photos in the Props Photo Booth.

Golden Corral did a wonderful job as always –again this year, the focus was on heavy hors d’oeuvres, available throughout the night, which everyone loved. Lots of compliments were given for the carving station and shrimp cocktails. And oh, the red velvet cake was the ultimate anniversary celebration.

Did I mention the tuxes and dresses?! You really did us proud! From the ladies’ lovely floor length dresses, to the men’s sharp tuxedos, you brought glamour and sophistication to Jacksonville!

The Foundation would like to offer a special thanks to our Hall of Heritage supporters: The Sewell Family and Marine Federal Credit Union. Thank you to all of our sponsors including; dinner sponsor Golden Corral, title sponsor Johnston Pain Management, OMH employees, physicians, local businesses and individuals. Your support for quality healthcare is truly commendable. We appreciate all that you do for our community and our hospital.

We are grateful for the remarkable work of our Foundation Board, the Events Committee, the local area Marines/Navy Volunteers, Donors, Volunteers and Community Members that help make the event possible and help to impact the entire community by providing the best healthcare, right here at home.

Thank you all for a friend-filled night of fundraising to benefit Building for Babies!

The Onslow Derby

February 27, 2017

The New Royals proved to be the perfect fit for the spectacular Onslow Derby! This blue-ribbon party band showcased a versatile trio of lead vocalists and a backing band comprised of Atlanta’s great music scene and NBC’s hit show America’s Got Talent.

When they weren’t dancing, Derby patrons found time to bid on a fantastic array of silent auction items using their smartphones. Many guests also had lots of fun taking photos in the Props Photo Booth.

Golden Corral did a wonderful job as always – but this year, the focus was on heavy hors d’oeuvres, available throughout the night, which everyone loved. Lots of compliments were given for the Derby-themed carving station and shrimp cocktails. And oh, those Mint Julep cupcakes! (Let’s not say how many we ate!)

Did I mention the hats?! You really did us proud! From the ladies’ lovely wide-brimmed hats, to the gents’ stylish Fedoras, you brought the southern Derby tradition home to Jacksonville!

The Foundation would like to offer a special thanks to our Hall of Heritage supporters: The Sewell Family and Marine Federal Credit Union. The Roaring '20s

Thank you to all our sponsors!

Disco Fever

February 28, 2015

Polyester leisure suits, bell-bottoms, cat suits, and platform shoes were just a few items worn by many community members on Feb. 28, 2015. Disco Fever, Onslow Memorial Hospital's 7th Annual Fundraiser, supported Project Panda Bear and Project 2020. With the support of the community, we were able to surpass our goal and actually purchase 5 new Panda Infant Warmers for the Nursery and Labor & Delivery units at Onslow Memorial Hospital.

Thanks to the skills of the hospital maintenance department and the decorating committee, including Karin Dickerson, Maria Dempster, and Jennifer Fields, the American Legion had the look and feel of a 1970's Discotheque.

During this "groovy" event, guests had the opportunity to bid on items in the silent and live auctions. Kudos to Gayle Alvis and Paula Garris for organizing the amazing auction. Guests were also able to dance "The Hustle" with the A-Town, A-List and take crazy photos with Props Photo Booth. The dance floor was packed all evening as guests showed off their 1970's attire.

The Foundation would like to offer a special thanks to our Hall of Heritage supporters: Louis and Doris Sewell and Marine Federal Credit Union. Thank you to all of our sponsors including; dinner sponsor Golden Corral, OMH employees, physicians, local businesses and individuals. Your support for quality healthcare is truly commendable. We appreciate all that you do for our community and our hospital.

We are grateful for the remarkable work of our Foundation Board, the Events Committee, the local area Marines, Donors, and Community Members that help make the event possible and help to impact the entire community by providing the best healthcare, right here at home.

Biker Bash

February 22, 2014

Leather-clad patrons sporting tattoos, custom choppers, skull artwork, and rock ’n’ roll music set the tone for Biker Bash, this year’s annual fundraiser for the OMH Foundation. The sold-out event welcomed over 700 community members and raised more than $100,000 for Project 2020, a long-term campaign to support the need for a new patient tower.

Thanks to the skills of the hospital maintenance department and the decorating committee, led by Lee Ann Thomas, the American Legion building had the look and feel of a movie backdrop from “Ghost Rider”. Local motorcycle enthusiasts loaned their “colors” and T- shirts to add to the décor. Many thanks go to area Marines, led by SgtMaj Joe Houle, for helping with this amazing transformation.

Golden Corral, a major sponsor of this year’s fund-raiser, provided a wonderful dinner, complemented by an amazing cupcake display in the fiery colors of the event. Biker Bash marked the sixth event for Golden Corral, which is fast approaching the $100,000 mark for inkind contributions in services and food to the Foundation.

After a welcome by Foundation Chair Jeff Clark and an invocation from Honorary Chair LaRue Hambrick, the evening kicked into gear with silent and live auctions, organized by Gayle Alvis and Jimmie Ervin, and emceed by George Lanvermeier. Jewelry, golf packages, beach houses, limousine packages and granite vanity tops topped the list of most-wanted items. (Special thanks to Tim Chadwick and his small team of tech-savvy volunteers for streamlining the check-in and check-out process!) Funds from the auctions, “Biker Bars,” photo booth and a few games of chance generated nearly $15,000.

The evening went into overdrive with the high-energy and nonstop performance of the A-Town A-List, an Atlanta-based band that kept the dance floor in motion until closing time with a string of favorites from line dance to pop to funk to rock.

“We are so grateful for the remarkable generosity that this community provides, for an event that will impact the entire community by providing the best healthcare available in our area,” said Clark. “The time and dedication of the events committee is truly remarkable.” Amy Sousa, Vice President Public Relations/Marketing, echoed those comments, adding: “Many hands make light work. The success of this event is a credit to the countless hours donated by many volunteers who serve on the Foundation board, hospital board, on the events committee, and as cheerleaders within their hospital departments or physician practices. Each and every volunteer makes this possible.”

The Foundation would like to offer special thanks to our Hall of Heritage supporters – Marine Federal Credit Union and Louis & Doris Sewell – as well as all of our other sponsors. We couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help.

Mardi Gras

February 23, 2013

Beads and masks were worn by many at the Onslow Memorial Hospital Foundation’s annual fund-raising event, Mardi Gras. This themed event welcomed over 700 community members and raised over $222,000 toward Project 2020 which is a 7-year, $2 million campaign to support the need for a new Patient Tower at Onslow Memorial Hospital. The purple, green and gold silent auction tables, organized by Lee Ann Thomas, grabbed the attention of many bidders who were interested in autographed college basketballs, NASCAR memorabilia, fine jewelry and much more.

Organized by Karin Dickerson and her talented Decorations Committee, the decorations that night were exactly what you would see on a “night on the town” in New Orleans. King Roy Smith, Queen Penny Burlingame, and King Mayor Pro-Tem Michael Lazzara even threw beads and doubloons from a float that the Decorations Committee creatively designed.

With the support of area Marines led by Sgt Major Joe Houle, the American Legion was turned into a scene from Bourbon Street. Golden Corral did a great job yet again, serving up a delicious Cajun-style menu, which included a delightful chocolate fountain for dessert. We cannot thank Golden Corral enough for the generous support for the past five OMH Foundation fund-raisers, totaling over $65,000 in services and food!

Thank you to ALL of our sponsors (including our event sponsors Marine Federal Credit Union, Golden Corral, and Ray Properties, Inc. & ABA Rental Properties, Inc.) for your continued support for Project 2020. We truly appreciate all that you do for our community and Onslow Memorial Hospital.“

We are so grateful for the remarkable generosity that this community provides, for an event that will impact the entire community by providing the best healthcare available in our area,” said OMH Foundation Chair Jeff Clark. “The time and dedication of the Foundation Board and Events Committee members is truly incredible and would not be possible without their compassion for our hospital.

Hippie Hippie Shake

February 25, 2012

Bell bottom jeans, tie dye shirts and go-go boots were just a few items worn by many community members on the evening of February 25, 2012. Hippie Hippie Shake, the Onslow Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 1960s themed event raised over $138,000 to support Project 2020, a 7-year, $2 million campaign to support the need for a new patient tower at OMH.

During the psychedelic event, community hippies had the opportunity to bid on items in the silent and live auctions, dance with go-go dancers, and groove to Spirit of the Radio. The dance floor was packed all evening as guests showed off their 1960s attire.

Thank you to all of our sponsors (including event sponsor Golden Corral), OMH employees, and physicians for your support for Project 2020. Your support for quality healthcare is truly commendable. We appreciate all that you do for our community and our hospital.

Also, special thanks to the volunteers, Marines and Sailors who worked so hard to make this event a great success. The Foundation Decorations Committee, headed by Ms. Karin Dickerson, turned the dreary American Legion into a blast from the past with tissue flowers, peace signs and smiley faces. The silent auction, organized by Ms. Lee Ann Thomas was full of exciting items to bid on all evening!

“This is the fourth year in a row that the great people of Jacksonville have come together to support yet another charitable event - an event that will impact the entire community by helping to provide the best health care available in our area,” said OMH Foundation Board Chair Jeff Clark. “The event would not have been possible without the dedication of the Foundation board and the Events Committee Members. We are extremely grateful for the community involvement and are looking forward to another fun event next year!”

Cowboy Up!

February 26, 2011

On Saturday, February 26th, 800 guests Boot Scoot and boogied at the OMH Foundation's third annual event, Cowboy Up!, that generated more than $150,000 in support of the Radiation Oncology Center's need for a PET Scanner.

"Howdy, partner!", "Ride 'em, Cowboy!", and "Whoa, Nellie!" were a few common sayings heard from many that attended the shindig that evening, at the Jacksonville American Legion. Attendees dressed the theme by purchasing cowboy hats, boots and chaps for the hoedown.

Cowboys and Cowgirls line danced their boots off to an array of music provided by Taco and Maria's DJ Services, while others enjoyed listening to Ryan Shupe and the RubberBand play their up-tempo country tune. A few were escorted to jail by the volunteer deputies on hand, but were released after donating $10 for bail!

Special thanks to the long list of dedicated sponsors, the enthusiastic Foundation Decorations Committee, the devoted volunteers, auction item donors and the many others who helped to make this event such a great success. "We are so very grateful to everyone involved in Cowboy Up!," said OMH Foundation Executive Director, Tim Strickland. "We recognize the time, dedication and compassion of the Foundation Board and Events Committee members, and the remarkable generosity of the many donors who have made a meaningful difference for local cancer patients."

Did you miss out on all the fun? The Foundation Board and Events Committee are already hard at work planning the next exciting event, so mark your calendar for February 25, 2012!

Key West Island Fest

February 27, 2010

Hula hoops, straw hats, flip-flops and frozen margaritas - Jacksonville has never seen it get so hot in February!

At Key West Island Fest - the OMH Foundation's Feb. 27 fund-raising gala - the tropical food, entertainment and ambience swept over 600 attendees away to the Caribbean for a delightful evening of fun, all for a great cause!

The Foundation is pleased to say that we surpassed our fund-raising goal of $100,000 for the evening, and earned a bit more than $120,000 in support of the new Radiation Oncology Center. In this tough fund-raising climate, it is amazing to say that over 100 businesses, cancer survivors, civic groups, hospital employees and concerned citizens showed their support by sponsoring the event!

Countless others donated auction items and other in-kind contributions, bought tickets to attend, and participated in event-day excitement like souvenir photo-ops and the live auction - with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting the Foundation.

We are truly humbled by the passionate support shown to this worthy cause, and the Foundation has been able to make great strides over the past couple of years because of our volunteers and donors. Additionally, special thanks to Project Chair LaRue Hambrick and Foundation Board Chair Rik Pugh for their dedication and enthusiasm.

M*A*S*H Bash

February 28, 2009

What was M*A*S*H Bash?! You may ask... On February 28, 2009, the OMH Foundation hosted their first gala, M*A*S*H Bash, named in celebration of the last episode of M*A*S*H, which aired on February 28, 1983. Scrubs, Hawaiian Shirts and Klinger Dresses were just a few items worn by the festive crowd that evening.

The Foundation generated $200,000 at M*A*S*H Bash in support of the new Radiation Oncology Center. A buffet dinner, cash bar, and an auction were components listed on the agenda that evening. Special Guest, Jamie Farr, arrived to entertain the crowd. A few lucky attendees even had the opportunity to get a snap shot with the celebrity!
